Seeing is Believing

So last night I tested the waters with the Fit Plus run program. About 10 years ago I had lost 40 pounds in 6 months by running 1.5 miles three times a week and then the other two times a week I did kick boxing or some other aerobic exercise. However 10 years ago I was not in the Chicago land area and could go out and run most of the year and the aerobic exercise was done with a my nice TV and VHS player.  Wow, I can't believe that I feel old just saying that I had, heck - still HAVE, VHS tapes and players.  Anyway, I digress.

I selected the 10 minute free style run with my little cheering crowd shouting words of encouragement and squeals of delight as I went on.  First, I must say that I think I ran better than my Wii character moved.  Sometimes I swear I was running my feet out and my Wii gal barely moved on the TV run path.  In the end I had run a tad over 2 miles in 10 minutes!

I felt so good about this fact that I decided to work out today.  Before doing so I decided to look back over the past week.  Every day I work out the Wii system measures my BMI and Weight and there is a graph that tracks it each time.  So I went back to my baseline.  I lost 2.7 pounds since January 2nd! And that is pretty much just using Wii Fit Plus.  I have not changed my eating habits....which I will though.....soon.....I think.  :-)

Feeling It

Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday this week I worked out with Wii Fit Plus for 30-40 mins.  I must say that each time my heart rate went up and I was out of breath for a while too. My energy level towards the end of the week was not a sluggish as normal.  I have also lost 1.7 pounds this week.  Not too bad considering a monthly visitor showed up for a few days.  :)

This coming week is going to pose a new scheduling challenge as my boy goes back to school, off from his winter break.  I highly doubt I'll be able to work out tomorrow but Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and next Sunday look good.

Time Share

Last night I wanted to get in 30 minutes of Wii Fit Plus time.  This however meant that I had to tell my son that he had to share the Wii after he himself was only on it for 30 minutes.  He gave me this angelic sad look like, "Don't you love me? If so, how can you take this away from me?"  It made me realize how easily kids can get addicted to games and how I needed to level set gaming expectations now...before school starts up again next Monday.

Now one of the reasons why my dear husband gave to justify the purchase of the Wii board was so that I could work out whenever ever I wanted and not be subjected to a gym or fitness center's schedule.  While that is true, he forgot that the Wii was a "family" gift and a schedule still must exist.  Since I don't want to jump into this full force and have that cause frustration and later rejection, I decided to introduce Wii three times this week.

So my work out schedule will be after work on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday or Sunday; it will probably end up depending on where I can squeeze a work out in over each weekend's activities. My son has Tuesdays and Thursdays to play Wii and my husband and daughter have no interest but just enjoy cheering my son and I on...or laughing at us. ;-)

Santa's Gift

Good old Saint Nic thought of a great gift for the entire family: Wii.  My son loves to play at family and friends homes that have Wii so of course our family had to have one too.  Knock on wood there was a huge sale at the North Pole so Saint Nic could afford it....you know he has a limited budget as his Chirstmas list is a bit long.

When I returned to work on December 27th, I shared with a few coworkers the joy we all had with Super Mario Brothers over the last couple of days.  Someone mentioned how a friend of theirs used Wii games to lose weight. I said, "With JUST Wii and eating a proper diet? No?! Really?" So of course I had to tell my dear husband later that night about the conversation.  He agreed and then really jumped on the band wagon.

After putting the kids to bed on New Years Day 2012, my husband tells me he was going out to get gas in the cars. I stayed home with the kids and fell asleep in little time.  As I slept all snug in the bed, little did I know what my husband was up to.  I woke up the next morning to see a box at the foot of the bed with a big red bow. It was the Wii Fit Plus; game and board. Oh boy.

On January 2nd,  I embarked on a journey to lose some weight and test out this gosip I heard.  Wii (sorry, couldn't resist) will see just how much I can lose with just Wii and change in eating habits.  Wish me luck!!
